Last week we were asked what makes us different from similar creativity laboratories and after thinking about it for a couple of minutes it was clear to me that the answer is design thinking apllied to large scale social innovation. The majority of current social innovation projects are focused on services and they normally start small, supported by limited human and material resources. Innovalab, on the contrary, has been working on industrial and large scale projects. Hiriko, the Social Innovation Park, the laboratory, are good examples. Manufacturing and industrial production is our tradition in the Basque region, and we want to take advantage of it to make social innovation more effective and relevant in order to compete with the big players on the private sector.
